I was born in Japan, in the city of Kyoto, which is famous for its many beautiful temples and shrines. I was raised with two sisters. Each of my sisters has two children, one girl and one boy, so I also have two nieces and two nephews. My parents have been married for 48 years and we are a very close family. Everyone in my family looks forward to welcoming another member, and so Eric and I are eager to adopt a child.
After graduating from a two-year college in Japan, I spent time working as a Japanese instructor and traveling. I have visited over twenty countries, including Turkey, Greece, Thailand, Sweden, and Italy. My travel experiences have given me an appreciation for cultural diversity and a love for meeting different people.
After marrying Eric in 2005 and moving to Hawaiʻi, I decided to further pursue my passion for teaching and started a B.A. program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. I received my B.A. degree in 2011 with majors in Women’s Studies and Second Language Studies. I also worked as a teacher for English Language Learners at an elementary school in Honolulu. Teaching remains my life’s passion, and since moving to Indiana I have earned by M.Ed. in education, as well as licensure in elementary education. I currently teach Japanese at a university here in Indianapolis.
I still enjoy travel and visiting new places. I also like spending time outdoors, walking in the woods or going to the beach. These days I particularly enjoy walking and playing with Pualani, our pet corgi. More than anything, I love spending time with children, whether my friends’ kids, my nieces and nephews, or my students. So, welcoming a child into my life is something that I have dreamed about for a long time.
Aki is the love of my life. She keeps me smiling and always encourages me to strive for my best. She is the most caring person I know and will make a wonderful mom. Aki has always loved spending time with children, whether her own nieces and nephews, friends’ kids, or students that she teaches. Children are naturally attracted to Aki because she loves to talk with them, listen to their stories, and play all sorts of games. Aki is also a passionate learner and a person who cares about the well being of others. I look forward to watching her play with, care for, and teach our child.
