We have been married for more than 15 years and have a 4-year-old son through the blessing of adoption.
We met and dated in college and married a month after Amy graduated. Josh had already graduated. Josh is an attorney and Amy owns a small financial planning firm with her dad that she runs from home.
Our parents think that we bring out the best in each other. We were friends before we started dating and genuinely enjoy spending time together. We enjoy following and discussing current events, movie watching, cheering on our college team, and just being together.
Josh enjoys all things electronic including building computers and flying small drones in the yard, and spending time with friends. Amy loves to cook, especially baking, going on walks, swimming, and recently took up knitting (so far she has made one scarf and one tangled mess, but it is fun to learn new things). We love playing games with our son. He loves all sports, cars, and building towers (he especially likes knocking the towers down).
Both of our moms were teachers, and one of the things we'd planned to do before having kids was reading a lot. We had baskets of books before our son was born and had hopes of sparking a lifelong love of reading. He is nearly 5 so lifelong might be a bit of a stretch but reading together has been so much fun. Some of our favorites are Make Way for Ducklings, Curious George, Katy and the Big Snow, and Cars and Trucks and Things That Go (The Busy World of Richard Scarry).
One of the things we've enjoyed recently is reading a chapter of a children's book after lunch. Right now we are reading The House at Pooh Corner, and we read Winnie-the-Pooh before. reading together has been a time of slowing down and connecting together via the stories. We look forward to family reading time and exploring some of the classics we grew up with like Swiss Family Robinson, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Little House on the Prairie, and others as they grow and mature.
We have a large extended family that we are very close to, Amy's parents and sister/brother-in-law live in town and Josh's family is near enough that we get together often. They have welcomed our son with open arms and are excited that we are adopting again.
While we cannot promise to be perfect, we do promise to do everything within our power to provide a safe and loving home for a child. Knowing you face some difficult decisions, please know that we are praying for you even though we have not met. Whatever your decision, we want what is best for you and your child. Thank you for taking the time to consider us as possible parents for your child.
