I could honestly write a book about my family tree and enjoy every minute of it but, for your sake, I will try to keep this brief! I have to start by telling you that my parents and my grandparents have been absolutely instrumental in making me who I am today and I am thankful for each of them every day.
Because I am an only child and I grew up without much extended family nearby, my parents (Drew and Cindy) and I are extremely close. We even used to refer to ourselves as "the three musketeers". My parents were high school sweethearts and have been happily married for 32 years. Their love, respect, and devotion to each other is beautiful and Trey and I cherish their wisdom and advice. Neither of my parents have college degrees so they always had to work hard to provide a good life for us. My dad is a salesman by trade and he has built a successful career out of humble beginnings. My mom gave up her career at a bank so that she could stay at home with me when I was young and that sacrifice ended up being beneficial for all of us.
The three of us were always very involved in our church and were blessed to build a strong support system of lifelong friends that we consider family. When I was in middle school, my mom began working for our church and she worked there for 18 years before stepping away last year to care for my aging grandparents.
Life with my family now is still pretty great. Trey and I are extremely close with my parents and are thrilled that they are building a home on the same property as us. We love having family dinners and playing card games together. Our table is always full of laughter!
Over the past several years, we have also been blessed to reconnect with my cousin Josh, who was stationed on a military base in North Carolina until recently. He and his wife were both adopted from Korea as infants. They spent lots of holidays and celebrations with us and we have been thrilled to watch them grow their family!
My family is incredibly supportive of our decision to adopt and I am confident that they will welcome any baby into our family without hesitation! My parents are especially excited and have already decided that they want to be called "Mimi" and "Poppy"!
Lastly, a few of my favorite things are:
- Tending to Our Farm Animals
- Gardening and Canning Garden Veggies
- Puppies and Babies (not in that particular order)
- Craft Projects
- NC STATE FAIR!
From Trey (Katie's Husband):
Katie described in one word would be 'amazing". Katie is a wonderful and loving wife, who is full-hearted, caring, and generous. Her unconditional love for me and our growing family is humbling and endearing. It is and she is everything I need and want. Our Christian faith is very important to us and Katie's love for Jesus is one of the things that I love about her most. Katie's love for children is also evident to me and anyone who knows her. She has been a pediatric nurse for several years and has the biggest heart for children and their families. She treats her patients as her own which is how I've always known that she will make a great mother some day. I also love how Katie considers her friends as her family and they have welcomed me into that family with open arms. They are the best group of friends anyone could ask for. We love spending time with them and our own families but we also enjoy spending time with each other. Katie and I use the phrase "I love you to the moon and back" and whenever I say it I mean it with all my heart.
