I was born and raised in a very rural area of North Carolina by my mom (Tammy) and dad (Arthur) alongside my younger brother (Zach). Our family has always been very close-knit and most of my relatives did and still do live within a 30 mile radius of each other.
Zach and I were always playing outside as children and we learned the value of hard work by watching (and helping) my parents and grandparents run our farm. After several years, we dissolved our family farm and my mom became an elementary school teacher and my dad got a job at a local paper mill.
I have many memories of my childhood but one of my favorites is going to various NASCAR races with my parents and Zach. I still continue this tradition today and take my dad and Katie's dad (Drew) to a couple races each year. Another favorite memory is spending Sunday evenings with my grandma and granddaddy while my parents attended church choir practice. Because of this, I have a very special bond with my grandma and she continues to be one of our biggest supporters!
My parents and grandparents always encouraged and supported my passion for firefighting and are so proud of my accomplishments. My brother followed in my footsteps and became a volunteer firefighter as soon as he was able, as well! Our mom and dad even have a scanner in their home that they tune so they can hear the dispatch calls that our various fire departments receive.
Since I married Katie and moved to her hometown, I have been welcomed with open arms into Katie's family and community. Surprisingly, even though they are my in-laws, I have always felt a sense of ease and comfort from the moment I met her parents and grandparents. I grew especially close to her Poppop and we bonded over our love for sports, especially golf. He passed away in 2018 and I miss him very much but we all take comfort knowing we will be reunited with him in Heaven one day. His loss brought us even closer together as a family and we know we can count on each other for anything.
Both of our families are so excited to see what this next year holds for us and they cannot wait to welcome a new addition with open arms!
Lastly, a few of my favorite things are:
- UNC Basketball - Go Tarheels!
- Go Karting
From Katie (Trey's Wife):
I prayed for my future husband for years and I can confidently say that God gave me exactly what I wanted and needed when He brought Trey into my life almost five years ago. Trey is my favorite. He is everything I am not and he compliments me perfectly. His patience, kindness, and gentleness with me and others are the traits I appreciate most about him. I can be a little "crazy" at times (as I'm sure most women can relate...haha) but he loves me despite my flaws. Trey and I are not just spouses, we are partners. We make every decision together and support and encourage each other along the way. I am so proud of the hardworking man that he has become and I love bragging about his accomplishments to our friends and family. His passion for firefighting is inspiring and I love watching him further his career and lead others. Even though he is dedicated to his fire departments and the communities they serve, I know without a shadow of a doubt that our life together and growing our family is his first priority. He makes me feel safe and adored and I am certain I will fall even more in love with him as I see him care for our children with that same unconditional love and adoration.
